"You don't even know who you are" is the famous line spoken in The Lion King by Rafiki, the wise very Buddha-like monkey when he brings Simba to the watering hole. Simba looks and then only sees himself but then is asked to look again and sees his father and is asked to remember who he is.

Do you know who you really are?

How do you see yourself clearly?

Enter Vipassana meditation.

"Vipassana (insight meditation) is the ultimate expression of Socrates' dictum, "know thyself." The Buddha discovered that the cause of suffering can actually be erased when we see our true nature. This is a radical insight. It means that our happiness does not depend on manipulating the external world. We only have to see ourselves clearly— a much easier proposition (but in the ultimate sense, knowing oneself with clarity reveals there is no permanent self, as the Buddha taught).

Vipassana meditation is a rational method for purifying the mind of the mental factors that cause distress and pain. This simple technique does not invoke the help of a god, spirit or any other external power, but relies on our own efforts."  http://www.vipassanadhura.com/whatis.htm

We get to do this. We don't need a guru telling us a secret mantra to do it. We don't need special outfits or a special cushion. We don't need to be guided or to have special music. We need to see ourselves so we

We see ourselves clearly. And then we go from 'being by doing' to 'doing by being'. Follow the monkey - Hanuman (more on that next post.). xo, j
